The President, who was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, called on the members of council, as well as members and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to deliver the party from top to bottom, in order to sustain the legacy he is leaving behind.
Speaking in his capacity as the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Gambari said Buhari, as the leader of the APC, is committed to a number of principles namely, safety and security of the country, revitalization of agriculture and diversification of the economy, as well as leaving the Nigeria a much safer, much prosperous country where probity, good conduct and transparency is the key.
According to Prof. Gambari, there is no better party to consolidate on these legacy than the APC.
“He wants all the Governors of APC to return. He wants more states to become APC states. And therefore, in that context, what does he want, continuity in this state, continuity and the consolidation of his achievements,” he stated.
The Chief of Staff to the President used the opportunity to appreciate citizens of Nasarawa State serving the country in various capacities, who he said, are making the APC and the Buhari administration proud.
In his address, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, said with the unveiling and inauguration of the campaign council, the APC in the state is ready to start campaigns to not only crush the opposition but to return him to the Shendam Road Government House.
He said the victory recorded by the party in 2019 will be a child’s play, because as a student of the Dangote, he will not take the opposition lightly, he will crush the opposition.
“The victory you saw in 2019 will be a child’s play. I am actually a student of the Dangote. And in Dangote we don’t take competition lightly. We crush competition. We make sure it does not exist. We don’t want to see one out of the 24 members of the house of assembly that is not an APC,” Engineer Sule stated.
In order to facilitate the 2023 campaigns, the Governor distributed 30 Sharon vehicles, 300 motorcycles and 20 wheelchairs, to party officials, groups and associations, as well as women, youths and persons living with disabilities.
Engineer Sule emphasized that, the APC must deliver Nasarawa State because it produced the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
“We are determined. This is the state of our national chairman, therefore this is the state that APC must win.
“This is the state of Tanko Almakura, therefore this is the state that A. A. Sule must win.
“This is the state of A. A Sule therefore this is a state that all our senators must win. By the grace of God we are going to come out victorious,” he said.
He however pointed out that, the APC will go out to campaign as if the party is the underdog, until the party is returned to power, to continue with the good work that his administration is doing in the state.
“We are going to go ahead with this campaign as if we are the underdogs, we are not going to have any overconfidence the way other people are having, we are going to put in all our energy into this campaign until we deliver. Because we want to deliver, we want to come back, we want to continue with the good work that we are doing,” the Governor added.
Engineer Sule used the opportunity to thanked his predecessors, including the founding fathers of the state, who laid the foundation for his administration to build upon.
“Today, we are able to achieve what we are able to achieve because in every area we touch, we have an excellent foundation.
“I want to also use the opportunity to ask you to continue to pray for those who worked hard for the creation of this state, including my friend and brother, Murtala Lamus who just passed away. I want you to know that they have worked so hard and we are building on what they have already established,” he stated.
Engineer Sule equally appealed those who couldn’t make the campaign council list to understand that the actual campaign is taking place at the grassroots, at the various local government areas and not at the headquarters of the campaign council in Lafia.
The unveiling and inauguration of the Engineer Sule campaign council was witnessed by prominent sons and daughters of the state, including the first civilian governor of the state and national chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, as well as all citizens of the state serving in various capacities under the Federal Government, amongst others.
In a goodwill message, the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, called on the people to deliver the party at all the levels of the elections, from the president, to members of the state assemblies.
Senator Adamu said the only way Nigerians will show appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, who is completing his second term, is to vote overwhelmingly for the APC, so that the party will produce his successor.
On his part, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, assured that APC has a lot to sell to the people of Nasarawa State, urging every citizen of state to be proud of the party, just as the former governor said, the APC should also be proud of Nasarawa State because it was the goose that laid the golden egg back in 2011.
Senator Al-makura was optimistic that, with the array of individuals at the event, the people of the state are ready to repeat the feat achieved in 2019, which saw Engineer Sule defeat two political juggernauts.
“I believe, Nasarawa State, by seeing the congregation here, the faces that are here, that we are definitely going to repeat that feat and make it even better.
“My people of Nasarawa State, you have not disappointed us. You have made Nasarawa to be mainly, solidly and thoroughly an APC state. I am calling on you to repeat the feat and even improve on it. Because APC has done so much for Nasarawa State,” Al-makura said.
He however called on the people to commence campaigns immediately and not to isolate it to rallies, lectures or townhall but to sell the party at every given opportunity.
While highliting what the APC has done for Nasarawa State, Senator Al-makura said the people of the state, will ask for more because they will do more to ensure that APC is elected from top to bottom.
Also, ChiefJohn Mamman, Nasarawa State APC Chairman, said the party was sure of winning all elections in the state in 2023, giving the achievements recorded by Engineer Sule in the past three and a half years.
