

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) says President Muhammadu Buhari is beginning to get it right in Science, Technology and Innovation.
NYCN’s Organising Secretary for Nasarawa West, Malam Umar Rabiu-Kadarko, made the observation in a statement issued on Sunday in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The observation came on the heels of the appointment of a youth, Mr Nura Adamu, as the Chairman, Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research.
Rabiu-Kadarko said the appointee, a UK-trained Computer and Mechanical Engineer, had the required experience, knowledge, skills and leadership qualities to pilot the affairs of the institute to achieve its mandate.
The youth leader commended Buhari’s administration for finding and appointing such competent person needed to move the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to the desired level.
Rabiu-Kadarko also appreciated Buhari “for appointing a young person to chair the institute for Trypanosomiasis research.
“The appointment has demonstrated the president’s commitment to youths’ inclusion in governance.
“It is noteworthy that one of us, who is a youth and an embodiment of commitment and excellence, has been appointed into a strategic agency in the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
“It is also noteworthy that Mr Adamu is a stellar individual and technocrat per excellence who has the credentials to move the research institute forward.
“We are, therefore, commending President Buhari and the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi, for having confidence in Adamu for the appointment.
“We also want to assure Nigerians, especially youths that Adamu would continue to be their ambassador, especially in making a case for increased youth participation,’’ Rabiu-Kadarko stated .
The youth leader also expressed the appreciation of youths of Nasarawa State of Buhari’s appointment of additional 10 indigenes of the state into the boards of different agencies in the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
He listed some of the new appointees as Alhaji Tasau Madugu, member, Project Development Agency, Ishak Kana, member, Nigerian Institute of Laboratory Science, Haruna Osegba, Chairman, National Institute of Leather Technology, Aliyu Bello, Member, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute.
Rabiu-Kadarko called on the appointees to deploy their massive wealth of experience and public service exposures in their various offices for timely and efficacious results.
