Why Engineer Sule Deserves A Second Term-Nasarawa ALGON

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Nasarawa State chapter said Governor Abdullahi Sule deserves a second term in office, because under his administration, local government councils enjoyed unfettered liberty and financial autonomy.

Nasarawa ALGON Chairman, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, who doubles as the Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area, stated this in a chat with journalists in Lafia, on Saturday.

According to the ALGON Chairman, the March 11 gubernatorial election is but a payback time for the councils, as show of appreciation to the Governor for his development strides in terms of infrastructure, economic empowerment, amongst others that are impacting positively on the socioeconomic lives of the people.

Hon Maifata said under the administration of Governor Sule, local government councils in the state never had it so well, particularly in the aspects of liberty and financial autonomy, with financial resources made available to the councils directly from the federation account.

He added that, for the first time in the history of the state, local government councils are allowed to appropriate and distribute resources as it comes from the federation account, with Governor Sule even augmenting this whenever there is shortfall.

The ALGON Chairman pointed out that, as a result of the excellent relationship existing between the Governor Sule administration and local government councils in the state, coupled with the guidance from the Governor, local governments have been able to achieve a lot in terms of bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.

“Honestly speaking, it has never been so good like now. Under the administration of His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, local government councils in the state are really having good time in terms of liberty, in terms of availability of resources that comes to the various local government councils in the state, even from the federation account.

“This is one governor that allows us to appropriate and distribute the resources as it comes from the federation account. And at times, even augment whenever shortfall is experienced. That is why, because of this excellent relationship, because of this good guidance from His Excellency, we are able to achieve a lot at our various councils,” the Nasarawa ALGON chairman stated.

Citing examples with the projects he executed as the chairman of Lafia Local Government Area, Hon Maifata mentioned the Mai Azara Street, where the council reclaimed and rehabilitated the area from the devastation of water erosion.

Also, under his leadership, the counci constructed a brand new, modern police station in Assakio, Lafia East Development Area, as well as the redesigning and modernisation of the legislative council for the local government area, to make it one of its kind in the state.

“Also, if you go to Gwandu/Wakwa Road, you will see what we are doing there. This is a road that has been an eyesore to the people of that area for years. The local government is doing that road, reclaiming it and laying laterite.

“If resources and time permits, we will tar it. Right now, we are reclaiming and rehabilitating that road to make motorable and easy for residents to access,” he said.

As the country inches towards this month general election, with the gubernatorial election billed to hold on March 11, Hon. Maifata used the opportunity to call on the people of Nasarawa State, particularly the people of Lafia Local Government Area, to turn out enmasse to vote Governor Sule again, in order to sustain the development strides of the present administration.

“To the people of my local government, I will just remind them that this is just payback period. Because His Excellency has done a lot and is doing a lot in Lafia, in terms of infrastructural development, economic empowerment and a lot of programmes that are bringing positive impact in the socioeconomic lives of the people.

“By this, I call on the people of Lafia to vote His Excellency again come March 11, because we need these dividends of democracy to continue to come our way. This is one Governor that really has passion for the people at heart and to continue to develop the people and the communities.

“For these reasons and more, there is every need for us to give him another term. And as people always say, one good turn deserves another. A. A Sule deserves that,” he said.
