Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, is eyeing the opportunity to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Speaking ahead of the 2025 Unity Cup, Chelle revealed plans to test new players and explore different roles for them during the competition.
The Unity Cup, which will feature the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Black Stars of Ghana, Reggae Boys of Jamaica, and Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago, offers a valuable opportunity for Chelle to assess his team. The tournament, set to run from May 27 to May 31, 2025, will be held at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium in London.
“We are looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October,” Chelle said in an interview with thenff.com.
Despite sticking with most of his regular stars for the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, the Malian coach is eager to build a more versatile team, and the Unity Cup will serve as the perfect platform for experimentation and integration.
The tournament will not only be an exciting showcase of talent but also a crucial step for Chelle as he continues to prepare the Super Eagles for the challenges ahead.
