In a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education sector, President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointments of the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, and Principal Officers for the new Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Senator Binta Masi Garba has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council. A respected politician, businesswoman, and administrator, Senator Garba represented Adamawa North Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2019 and served in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011.
The newly appointed members of the Governing Council include Prof. Joseph Olurotimi Sanya, Efe Emefienin Emmanuel, Dr. Joyce Ogunyemi, and Alhaji Dahiru Abdullahi Ruma.
The Principal Officers of the university have also been named as Prof. James Olugbenga Aribisala will serve as the Vice-Chancellor, Â Oluwole Olalere Dada appointed as Registrar, Adeniyi Rachael Ajayi as Bursar, and Prof. Isaac Oluwadare Busayo as Librarian.
In a statement signed by President Tinubu’s Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Senate Leader Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele for his advocacy in the establishment of the new university.
The President urged the appointees to leverage their extensive experience to foster academic excellence, innovative research, and development at the new university, which is set to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.
Additionally, President Tinubu has appointed Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Board for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, succeeding Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami.
Prof. Audu, a distinguished academic and former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, will bring valuable experience to his new role.
These appointments are part of the President’s broader strategy to elevate Nigeria’s educational standards and ensure that these new institutions thrive in fostering innovation and contributing to national development.
