The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it has received the contact details of the representatives behind the petition for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central. The electoral body’s update comes after a clarification was issued on Wednesday regarding the submission of missing information.
Earlier this week, INEC acknowledged receiving the petition to recall Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan but noted that it did not initially meet the necessary requirements. Specifically, the petitioners had failed to provide the required contact information including addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses in the covering letter, as stipulated in Clause 1(f) of INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines.
However, INEC National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, confirmed that these details were subsequently provided in a letter addressed to the Commission’s Chairman on March 26, 2025. This update allowed the Commission to proceed with the process.
As part of the next steps, INEC has officially notified Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan about the receipt of the petition, delivering the notification to her official address. The same letter has been forwarded to the presiding officer of the Senate and made available on INEC’s website.
The next phase involves verifying the list of signatories to ensure that the petition has been signed by more than 50% of registered voters in the Kogi Central constituency.
INEC has assured the public that this process will be transparent, and the outcome will be publicly disclosed to determine further actions.
