Senate President, Ahmed Lawan
“This Senate pledged to be and remain the Senate that works for Nigerians”
Senate President Ahmed Lawan has spoken about three Bills at the Senate that represented a major breakthrough for the Upper Chamber, just before they proceed on recess. He mentioned the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), and Electoral Amendment Bill as “landmark” legislations in the history of the 9th Senate.
He also expressed satisfaction with the 9th Senate’s efforts towards constitutional amendment, expressing confidence that the committee would submit its report soon.
“Before we embarked on recess, the ninth Senate accomplished the targets that we set for ourselves. We passed the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), and also passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2010. These were landmark Legislations targeted at enhancing the Oil and Gas Sector in our Country and improving the Electoral system in our dear Nation,” he says.
“Our commitment to the review of the 1999 Constitution as amended is also commendable as the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution worked throughout the period of the recess. I am aware that the Committee will present the report of its work to the Senate soon.”
He then disclosed that plans have reached advanced stage in preparations for “the presentation of the 2022 Appropriation Bill by Mr. President soon”
“This Senate pledged to be and remain the Senate that works for Nigerians. We have so far proven that beyond any reasonable doubt. We must therefore remain focused on this altruistic and patriotic path, in order to continue to provide pro – people and life improving legislative interventions throughout our legislative mandate”, Lawan noted.
