A missile attack rocked Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early on Sunday, injuring at least three people and causing significant damage. The attack, which sparked several blazes and damaged cars, took place just two days after a deadly Russian strike in President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, which claimed the lives of 18 civilians.
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that paramedics were dispatched to two districts in the city, where fires broke out in non-residential buildings and eight cars were damaged. He also confirmed that air defense systems were activated in response to the missiles, urging residents to stay in shelters as explosions continued.
The Ukrainian air force reported that missiles also targeted the northern Chernihiv region, adding to the escalating tensions in the region. Meanwhile, Poland’s military took precautionary measures, deploying air defense systems and aircraft in response to Russian strikes along its border with Ukraine.
This fresh wave of attacks comes amid growing calls for a ceasefire, with US President Donald Trump urging a partial halt to hostilities as the war enters its fourth year. Despite the international push for diplomacy, the conflict rages on, with both sides continuing to escalate military operations, and casualties mounting. Russia’s defense ministry also reported intercepting and destroying 11 Ukrainian drones in recent operations.
As Kyiv grapples with this new wave of violence, the city remains on high alert, with citizens enduring another chapter in the ongoing war.
