Real Madrid have suffered a major setback as French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga has been ruled out for the rest of the 2024/25 season following a serious groin injury.
The club confirmed on Thursday that the 22-year-old sustained a complete rupture of the left adductor tendon during Madrid’s narrow 1–0 victory over Getafe in La Liga on Wednesday night.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Eduardo Camavinga by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with a complete rupture of the left adductor tendon,” the club said in an official statement.
Spanish media outlets report that Camavinga is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months, casting doubt over his availability for the upcoming Club World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States this summer.
The injury also rules him out of this Saturday’s Copa del Rey final clash against arch-rivals Barcelona, a critical fixture in Madrid’s campaign. Additionally, he will miss the club’s final five La Liga matches, with Los Blancos still in pursuit of narrowing the gap on league leaders Barcelona.
Camavinga’s absence is a blow to manager Carlo Ancelotti, who has already been managing a delicate midfield balance following injuries to other key players throughout the season. Despite struggling for consistent form this term, Camavinga remains one of Madrid’s most versatile midfield assets, capable of covering both defensive and box-to-box roles.
His contribution last season was instrumental in Madrid’s double success, helping them clinch both the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League. This latest injury could also affect his preparations for France’s upcoming international fixtures, including possible involvement in the 2025 UEFA Nations League or early friendlies for next year’s World Cup qualifiers.
The setback adds to a growing injury list for Madrid, who are already navigating a packed fixture schedule amid high expectations both domestically and in international competitions.
