…Urges Tinubu to arrest Law-breakers
The Nigeria Accountability Promoters (NAP) has condemned in the strongest terms the recent protest staged at the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, describing it as an irresponsible, unbecoming and unfortunate act of national anarchy. A sponsored attempt to undermine national peace and unity, and ultimately sabotage the integrity of public institutions. It also said “nothing is hidden, regarding the outgone NNPC transformation and the operations, throughout the Mele Kyari era.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Malam Abdullahi Sabiu, the group described the protest — which demanded the probe of Ex- NNPCL GCEO, Mallam Mele Kyari, OFR — as “an orchestrated charade by mercenary agitators bankrolled by enemies of Nigeria’s oil sector reforms and anti-corruption gains.”
“This is not activism. This is economic sabotage dressed in protest garments,” the group stated. “Everything about that protest — the timing, the location, and the tone — suggests it was deliberately designed to provoke crisis and invite hoodlums to hijack what would have turned into a national security emergency.”
The group warned that Nigeria’s hard-earned stability must not be gambled with by attention-seeking rent-a-crowd campaigns designed to blackmail public servants. It therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct security agencies to swiftly arrest and investigate the sponsors and organisers of the protest.
“The law must take its course,” Malam Abdullahi Sabiu said. “This government has made it clear that it will not allow anti-reform forces to hold the country hostage through street drama and baseless allegations.”
The group further took a swipe at the involvement of supposed legal practitioners in the protest, calling it a disgrace to the noble profession. “Is this the example we are setting for aspiring lawyers?” the statement queried. “Are our courts now to be replaced with placards and mob chants?”
The Nigeria Accountability Promoters called on our highly respected Nigerian Bar Association to investigate and sanction any of its members who participated in the protest, stressing that lawyers must be defenders of due process, not participants in lawless agitation.
Concluding, the group posed a biting question to the protestors: Which Kyari are you talking about? The same Mele Kyari who was openly praised by President Tinubu at global oil and gas summits in India and beyond? Do these protesters presume to know more about Kyari’s competency and service than the Commander-in-Chief himself?
