The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd seems having the last laugh at its critics over their claims that the old Port Harcourt refinery is not producing petroleum products.
The company announced, Tuesday, November 26 that the refinery has commenced operating at 70 percent of its installed capacity, producing 60,000 barrels of petroleum products per day.
NNPC) Ltd, announced this achievement in a statement by its Chief Corporate Communication Officer, Olufemi Soneye, debunking claims by the critics that the refinery is not producing products.
The company described the restart production at the refinery as a significant step forward after years of operational challenges and underperformance.
“We are, however, aware of unfounded claims by certain individuals suggesting that the refinery is not producing products,” the company said in the statement.
“For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90%. The refinery is producing the following daily outputs,” it declared.
NNPC listed the products produced by the old refinery as:
Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha): blended into 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol); 900,000 liters of Kerosene; 1.5 million liters of
Automotive Gas Oil (AGO or Diesel); 2.1 million liters of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO); and additional volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
“Additionally, we have made substantial progress on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, which will begin operations soon without prior announcements,” NNPC said.
It advised Nigerians to appreciate the remarkable achievements it has made, warning, “Malicious attacks on clear progress only undermine the significant strides made by NNPC Ltd and the country.”
