In a move aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s cyber resilience and digital defense capabilities, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has entered into a strategic partnership with French cybersecurity training firm SecDojo. The collaboration will lead to the creation of a dedicated Cybersecurity Academy in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s digital transformation journey.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed on the sidelines of GITEX Africa 2025 in Marrakech, Morocco—one of the continent’s premier technology and innovation gatherings.
According to NITDA, the primary objective of the MoU is to bolster national defenses against the rising tide of cyber threats through targeted training and capacity development. The partnership will roll out a series of comprehensive programs focused on cybersecurity awareness, skills acquisition, and digital literacy across the country.
Multi-Dimensional Cybersecurity Strategy
This initiative supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its emphasis on national security and economic growth through technological advancement. The Cybersecurity Academy will act as a central hub for both theoretical and hands-on training, equipping participants with the tools to detect, manage, and mitigate cyber threats across various sectors.
Under the agreement, NITDA and SecDojo will develop a multi-layered approach that includes:
• Cybersecurity bootcamps and masterclasses
• Workshops and real-time threat simulations
• Industry-recognized certification programs
• Public-private collaboration on cyber hygiene and infrastructure protection
The academy is expected to serve a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, private corporations, critical infrastructure operators, and even students looking to enter the fast-growing field of cybersecurity.
Expanding Nigeria’s Cyber Workforce
NITDA emphasized that this partnership is also designed to address the widening cybersecurity skills gap in the country. As cyberattacks grow more sophisticated and frequent, the demand for trained professionals capable of securing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure has never been greater.
“This MoU signifies a major step in developing a skilled cybersecurity workforce that can defend our digital space,” the agency noted in a statement. “It’s not just about training—it’s about creating a cybersecurity culture that permeates every level of our society.”
The program also aligns with global best practices in cybersecurity development, and it is anticipated that the Cybersecurity Academy will evolve into a regional center of excellence, attracting talent and partnerships from across West Africa.
