Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, are setting their sights on a dominant performance as they prepare to face Algeria in the first leg of their final qualifying round for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Head coach Bankole Olowookere has rallied his squad to aim for a high-margin win when they host the North Africans this Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. The fixture is crucial as it marks the penultimate step toward securing a spot in the global tournament to be held in Morocco.
“We have been working very hard to correct the lapses noticed in our last matches against South Africa, and we believe we are in good form to achieve a handsome win here,” Olowookere said in an interview with thenff.com. “We want to take full advantage at home before the return leg in Algeria.”
The second leg is scheduled for April 25 at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida, Algeria. With the aggregate winner sealing qualification, the Flamingos are keen to deliver a convincing result on home soil to ease the pressure ahead of the away tie.
Nigeria, a powerhouse in women’s youth football, is looking to make another impactful appearance on the world stage and will rely on their technical prowess and home support to take a strong step toward Morocco 2025.
