As economic woes deepen across the country, the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has issued a strong appeal to President Bola Tinubu, calling for urgent policy interventions to alleviate the growing hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Rt. Hon. Edward Ogundoyin, the conference highlighted the surging inflation, rising unemployment, and worsening cost-of-living crisis as key challenges straining citizens across all regions. The Speakers emphasized that many Nigerians are reaching a breaking point and that immediate government action is essential.
Beyond economic concerns, the conference also condemned the spike in violence and killings, urging both federal and state authorities to act swiftly to restore peace and stability. They advocated for community-based policing models as part of a broader, proactive strategy to address insecurity from the grassroots.
“Our people are groaning under immense pressure,” the statement read. “Now is the time for bold leadership, practical policies, and collaboration across all levels of government.”
As Nigeria battles on both economic and security fronts, the voices of state lawmakers echo the sentiments of a population desperate for relief and reform.
