Kyari Bags Doctorate Degree from FUT Minna

The GMD/CEO of NNPC Ltd, Mallam Mele Kyari has been awarded a honorary doctorate degree (honoris causa) by the Federal University of Technology ( FUT) in Niger State.

The honor was given to Kyari – the CEO of the largest oil company in Africa, on Wednesday during the 30th Convocation Lecture of the university.

A Press Release from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, disclosed that the award was in recognition of Dr. Mele Kyari’s contribution to national development.

Earlier, Dr. Kyari had on Monday addressed participants of the Convocation Lecture via presentation of a paper titled “Energy Transition & Energy Accessibility: The New Paradigm”, during which he captured the efforts of the company’s management to reposition it, to meet global challenges and be a leading corporation on the continent.

Dr. Kyari further stressed that the ongoing reforms in the company have set it on such a pedestal that it would lead Africa in the transition to low-carbon energy and renewables, according to a media statement signed by the Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Garba Deen Muhammad.

The GMD explained that the company is deepening natural gas utilization under the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP), among others.

The GMD also said the NNPC welcomes partnership with the academia and the industry experts “who demonstrate capacity for productive research and innovation in the energy sector”.

Other eminent Nigerians honored by the university include former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdussalam Abubakar, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina –President, African Development Bank and Founder/Chairman of BUA Group of Company, Alhaji. Abdul Samad Isyaka Rabiu
