Kebbi Gov. Assures Students of Their Safety

Kebbi State Governor Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has assured students and Teachers that government would provide necessary security to them.

The Governor gave the assurance at the assembly ground while addressing students and Teachers of Government Girls Science College, Yelwa, Yauri Local Government Area of the State.

Bagudu, who was on sympathy visit on Monday to Tungar Zarumai and Bakin Turi villages of Shanga Local Government which suffered attack by bandits, made a stop over at the school in order to calm the students, amidst rumours of an impending attack at the school by bandits.

He said, “I decided to come here to calm you down and assure you that by the Grace of God, nothing will happen to you.

”Government will do whatever is necessary to ensure that no harm comes to you, with your Teachers.

‘ We are here with the government officials and the Commissioner of Education, with his team to encourage you to continue with your studies, we are proud of you, may God bless you .

” What you are doing is in line with our aspiration to see that some of you become future leaders, future Doctors, future Engineers and even future Governors,” he averred.

The Governor, while commending the Principal and Teachers for their efforts particularly to allay their fears , reassured the students that the government would take necessary measures to safeguard their lives.

”Do not get afraid of any attack, you don’t have to get frightened, as we will ensure your safety so that you can go on with your studies.”

Bagudu informed the students that the school has been selected among other girls’ schools to be upgraded .

He said,”the State Government was working with World Bank to ensure that all girls schools were upgraded to highier standard, well equipped with learning and skill acquisition materials so that the girls could excell in thier various endeavors.”

The Deputy Head Girl , Rita Christopher Bamaiyi, thanked the Governor for the visit.

She requested for the inclusion of tea and bread in their meals , repairs of Zuru hostel , supply of additional laboratory equipment and medicines, which the governor has promised to do.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero and the Principal, Dr. Suwaiba Salihu Kangiwa expressed profound appreciation for the visit by the Governor and his entourage to the school.

The Commissioner described the Governor as an education-friendly Governor, particularly the Girl Child Education.

The Governor was accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Government House Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Jarman Kabi,
Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Hassan Muhammad Shalla among others.
