In a decisive move to enhance professionalism and investigative competence within the police force, the Kano State Police Command has commenced a capacity-building programme focused on cybersecurity, anti-corruption, and ethical policing.
The training, which began on Tuesday, April 29, is part of a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at equipping officers—particularly those in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)—with specialised skills to meet modern security demands.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the initiative is designed to produce a disciplined and tech-savvy police force capable of tackling 21st-century crimes.
Highlights of the training included presentations on:
- “Eliminating Corruption in the NPF” by ACP Muhammad Wada Jarma (CID)
- “Extortion and Other Unethical Conduct” by ACP Mohammed B. Suleiman (X-Squad)
- “Cybersecurity Awareness” by Mr. Jessy John of the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative
Each session stressed the critical role of integrity, transparency, and digital literacy in policing and criminal investigations.
Commissioner of Police for Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, commended the facilitators and urged officers to take full advantage of the programme. “This training is an opportunity not just to learn but to stay ahead of emerging threats and uphold the highest standards of policing,” he stated.
In recognition of his commitment to digital safety and reform within the force, CP Bakori was honoured with an award by the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative. He dedicated the award to the officers of the Kano Command, reaffirming his commitment to preparing the police force for evolving security challenges.
He added that similar training sessions would be rolled out across other departments and commands to institutionalise continuous professional development.
The police command reiterated that such initiatives will significantly boost investigative outcomes and public trust, paving the way for a more secure and digitally aware society.
