The Kaduna State Government has awarded 78 road projects covering a total of 775 kilometers in the last 21 months, with 21 of them already completed and in use.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for Public Works and Infrastructure, Ibrahim Hamza, during the Quarterly Ministerial Press Briefing at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, on Thursday.
Hamza highlighted the achievements of Governor Uba Sani’s administration despite numerous challenges inherited from past administrations. These challenges included project liabilities, vandalism, lack of proper documentation, over-inflated contracts, and missing records. However, he noted that the government had successfully tackled most of these issues.
Beyond road construction, the commissioner also addressed the pressing concerns in the water sector. He disclosed that significant funds had been invested over the years, but the results had not been satisfactory. He revealed that the previous administration secured loans, including $81 million from the Islamic Development Bank and $101 million from the African Development Bank, in addition to a $17.2 billion reform initiative by the Federal Government.
To resolve the longstanding water supply issues, Governor Sani declared a state of emergency in the sector, leading to remarkable improvements. The government cleared N800 million in salary arrears owed to Kaduna Water Corporation staff and settled an outstanding electricity bill of N1.3 billion.
Hamza further disclosed that between September and December 2024, the state injected over N25 billion into the water sector, and in 2025, the government has budgeted over N100 billion to improve water infrastructure. He assured residents that by December 2025, Kaduna State aims to achieve 100% water supply efficiency across all plants.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, pledging that more projects would be completed to enhance the state’s road network and public utilities.
