A Nigerian based international Islamic Scholar, Associate Professor Muhammad Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemo has proffered a number of measures towards entrenching security, peace and economic prosperity in Nigeria from Islamic perspective.

The sheikh enumerated the measures at a public lecture titled “entrenching security in Nigeria from Islamic perspective” held at the Sultan Abubakar Sa’ad Mosque of the federal polytechnic Bauchi.

Rijiyar Lemo said that having the fear of Allah (SWA) and obedience to His commands is the first major step in tackling the incessant security challenges bedeviling the country.

“When leaders and the led have fear of Allah (SWA) in their hearts, peace and economic prosperity will naturally follow suit.

“As it is now people don’t obey the commands of Allah (SWA). They commit all sorts of sins with impunity, without even having a second thought on the gravity of what they are doing.

“Sorcery, rituals, homosexuality, soothsaying, corruption from top level officials to the lowest level, traders/artisans cheating their customers, lesbianism et al are being committed on daily basis.

“As a matter of fact, sins that are grivious, like fornication, backbiting, envy, theft, mixing both sexes in occasions et al ,are no longer even considered as sins. Where is our society headed by flouting Allah’s command.

“All these and other moral decadence are sins that are being frowned at by Allah (SWA) and it attracts His wrath, which manifests in the lack of peace we are experiencing and the economic hardship the country is grappling with”, said the Islamic scholar.

The cleric supported his argument with some verses from Suratul Saba, where Allah (SWA) narrated the story of how a nation that was endowed with peace and economic prosperity were later afflicted with hardship because of their disobedience to the commands of Allah (SWA).

According to Sheikh Rijiyar Lemo, other measures to adopt in fostering security, peace and economic development in the nation includes having leaders that have the fear of Allah (SWA) and appointing competent people to man key positions in the country.

Also, while commending the efforts of the nations security agencies, the Rijiyar Lemo caution them to change their tactics of parading suspects and having them to re-enact their style of operations publicly.

“When you asked an arrested suspect to recreate his style of carrying his offence in the public domain, others of like minds out there watching are bound to learn from that display and also apply it in their style of operations too.

“Also, the security agencies should endeavor to publicize the punishment meted out to arrested offenders, to serve as deterrent to others nursing same ideas of crime. Usually what we see is parading the suspects after arrests, but we don’t get see or hear of their conviction and punishment”, he stressed.

Through out the event, the renowned scholar supported his lectures with quotations from the Holy Qur’an and the Hadiths of prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Our correspondent reports that the lecture attracted religious /traditional leaders, top government officials, academics and students of Islamic knowledge.
