The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that it has not yet reached a final decision regarding the delineation of wards in the Warri Federal Constituency. This comes after protests on Wednesday at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja, where members of the affected wards voiced their rejection of the proposed demarcation.
In a statement released on Thursday, INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun addressed the ongoing discussions surrounding the delineation of wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Federal Constituency, as mandated by a Supreme Court ruling on December 2, 2022. Olumekun emphasized that the Commission had conducted extensive consultations from February 2023 to July 2024, which included fieldwork in the three local government areas involved, culminating in the creation of a draft report.
Further consultations were held with stakeholders in Warri on April 4, 2025, where representatives from each party connected to the issue were presented with copies of the draft report. The purpose of this meeting, according to Olumekun, was to provide stakeholders an opportunity to express any concerns and to work toward an amicable resolution that would be supported by all parties.
Olumekun reassured the public that, contrary to rumors, INEC had not yet made a final decision on the matter. He urged all stakeholders to submit their observations on the draft report, which would form the basis for further engagement.
The ongoing discussions highlight INEC’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and consultative process in the delineation of electoral boundaries, with the aim of reaching a fair and broadly accepted outcome.
