….As Governor donates N13m, two vehicles to Quranic Reciters Association
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has assured that he will not use a single kobo from the resources of the state while campaigning to be reelected come 2023.
Engineer Sule gave the assurance while speaking as a special guest at the national Quranic recitation event and fund raising, organised by the Quranic Reciters Association of Nigeria, at the Taal Conference Hotel, on Sunday.
According to the Governor, he will not deploy the resources of the state in seeking to be elected again for another term in office, stressing that, in order to facilitate his campaign, his friends, colleagues and bosses that he worked with while he was in the organised private sector, mobilized resources for him recently during a fund raising in Abuja, where over N1.2bn was realized.
Mounting the pulpit and quoting copiously from the holy Quran, Engineer Sule spoke on the need for politicians seeking power to thread with caution so as not to overheat the polity, because and as made clear in the holy book, only God gives power to whom he choses and at any given time.
The Governor used the opportunity of the event to speak on the collective efforts by the Northern states governors to address the menace of street begging especially by underaged children often referred to as the Almajiri.
While noting that there is a mark difference between the street beggar and the Almajiri, who is generally a seeker of knowledge, Engineer Sule said the Northern governors are disturbed over the increasing situation where some parents send their children to far away places, mostly across states, without preparing for their upkeep, thereby leaving such children to roam the streets, surviving through begging.
Engineer Sule said no one can deny the Muslim the right to acquire knowledge but that parents henceforth should desist from sending away their children without arranging on how to shelter, feed, clothe and take care of the medical needs.
He particularly appreciated the Quranic Reciters Association for chosing Nasarawa State to host the event, adding that such an event will afford the members as well as citizens of the state, to pray for peace to reign both in Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
Responding to the request by the association for assistance to enable them raise funds to build a dispensary and other issues, the Governor announced a personal donation of ten million naira towards facilitating the fund and another three million for organizing the fund raising.
He further donated two vehicles, one each for the state chapter and national body of the association.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, a national leader of the association, Dr. Mustapha Abdulkadir, spoke of the significance of giving in Islam.
Dr Abdulkadir said the Quranic Reciters Association of Nigeria has taken it upon itself to review the Almajiri system, with a view to address the inherent hazards associated with it.
He also spoke on the effort of the association, in conjunction with the House of Representatives, towards passing a bill seeking for the creation of the Almajiri commission.
Dr. Abdulkadir commended Engineer Sule for his commitment towards addressing the plight of the almajiri, while also appealing to government to consider funding the almajiri schools as it’s been done with formal schools.
He disclosed that, the association has mobilized their members, ensuring they obtained their permanent voter cards, to enable them discharge their civic responsibility during the coming general elections.
He added also that the associated devoted time and energy in praying for peace to reign both in Nasarawa State and the country at large.
The association thereafter, presented Engineer Sule with an award of honour, which was handed over to him by the Sarkin Kwandere, HRH Alhaji Ahmadu Almakura.
