How I Bumped Into 102kg Fish At The Airport

I was to travel to Abuja from the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi for a meeting this evening and as I walked into the check-in counter, I was attracted to two very big fishes being examined and weighed.

The officials were moving the two fishes back and forth to be sure they were well weighted and charged accordingly. Incredibly, the bigger fish weighted 60KG while the other went for 42KG; a total of 102 Kilograms. Tirkashi!

I could not resist the temptation to click away. I learnt that they were caught at Yauri and are to be transported to Abuja in the same plane as mine.

Kebbi is blessed and endowed. River Niger alone crisscrossed into Kebbi state by about 200 Kilometers, ditto for Rima and Zamfara rivers by more than a hundred kilometers each.

Kebbi is West Africa’s food basket. The only snag is that the potentials have not been fully tapped. Visionary and committed leadership is what is required to actualize those dreams.
