The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), has been invited by the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight to appear before it on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This invitation comes in the wake of the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State, which saw Admiral Ibas appointed to administer the state for an initial six-month period. Following the suspension of the state legislature, the National Assembly invoked Section 11 of the Constitution to assume the responsibilities of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
On Tuesday, Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, inaugurated the 21-member committee chaired by the House Leader, Professor Julius Ihonvbere. He urged the members to carry out their duties with impartiality and in the national interest.
According to a statement issued by the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, the committee resolved to invite the sole administrator for a comprehensive session to assess developments in the state under his leadership.
“This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest,” said Professor Ihonvbere.
The session is scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja. A formal letter of invitation has already been sent and acknowledged.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and constitutional fidelity in the discharge of its responsibilities.
