Gaza War: Israeli Airstrike Claims 26 Lives in Residential Attack

A deadly Israeli airstrike on Wednesday struck a multi-floor residential building in the Shejaia neighborhood of Gaza City, killing at least 26 Palestinians, including several children. Medics reported that dozens more were wounded in the attack, and many people remain missing, trapped under the rubble of the destroyed building. The strike also caused significant damage to nearby homes.

As of the latest updates, there has been no immediate comment from the Israeli army regarding the strike. This attack follows Israel’s resumption of airstrikes on Gaza after a two-month ceasefire, which ended in March 2025. Since the renewed offensive, at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed, according to the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza.

The escalation comes amidst continued hostilities between Israel and Hamas, with both sides blaming each other for the failure to reach a lasting ceasefire. Arab mediators, including Qatar and Egypt, with backing from the United States, have made repeated attempts to broker peace, but their efforts have yet to bridge the gap between the warring factions.

The violence dates back to October 2023, when Hamas fighters launched a deadly attack on southern Israel, killing over 1,200 people and taking around 250 hostages. Since then, over 50,800 Palestinians have died in the ongoing conflict, with no end in sight as diplomatic efforts continue to falter.
