Garba Deen Muhammad has been an accomplished journalist who has maintained a low profile for decades. He was first cut his teeth in the profession at the Weekly Trust newspaper, which was initially being run from Kaduna. With the expansion came the birth of Daily Trust in Abuja – Federal Capital Territory and he was relocated. He led a team of seasoned journalists to create an unbeatable brand, with thought-provoking lead stories that cultivated millions of readers for the paper.
Years later, using his personal savings, Garba Deen created a window of job opportunities for young, brilliant people – especially in the North – with his Companion Newspaper.
It did not take long before emerged President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in a hotly-contested election.

Prior to his latest appointment, Garba Deen got elevation as Senior Technical Adviser (STA) in the office of the current Minister of State for Petroleum – Dr. Timipre Sylva.
His sojourn in that office of the Minister of Petroleum attracted the attention of the Group Managing Director – Malam Mele Kyari , to emerge the corporation’s spokesman.

Analysts of developments in the oil and gas sector described Garba Deen’s emergence as spokesman, as timely. Proponents of this view insist that the Transparency, Accountability,Performance and Excellence(TAPE) mantra of the current management of the NNPC requires a Public Relations guru like Garba Deen to make more positive impact. They insist that the right man to drive the transparency policy of the NNPC management is finally in charge.
