Everight Health Care Foundation had distributed rice and N250,000 cash to 500 indigent women of Dimagu Autonomous Community in Imo.
The founder of the organisation, Mr Everest Okpara, stated this while presenting the items at the community’s football field.
Okpara said the gesture was intended to help the needy in the area during the Yuletide, adding the foundation was set up, “out of the desire to help those who cannot afford medical bills.”
He said the foundation would soon commence scholarship grants for intelligent pupils and students from poor families.
He urged the beneficiaries not to be despondent about life, saying they should “be positive, hope in God and encourage their children to pursue useful ventures”.
“The foundation was established in 2017 out of a desire to give back to society for patronising Everight Diagnostics.
“I set up the diagnostics centre, drawing inspiration from the story about my grandma, who reportedly died as a result of wrong medical diagnosis.
“The foundation concentrates on free health care for the less-privileged persons, but we decided to incorporate the most basic need of man, which is food.
“We have our presence in Imo, Abuja and Lagos and we shall continue to impact people’s lives.
“We hope to make Nigeria a destination for medical tourism and create presence in countries such as the U.S., UK and Dubai,” Okpara said.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ijendu Okpara, thanked the organisation for the gesture and prayed for God’s blessings on the team.
Also, the Traditional Ruler of the community, Eze Godwin Osuala, expressed gratitude to the foundation and called on other well-meaning indigenes of the community to embark on similar projects in the interest of humanity.
Mr Ugochukwu Okparaji, a businessman from the community, thanked Okpara for the initiative.
He appealed to the state government to create an enabling environment for investments to thrive. (NAN)
