The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday in honour of Workers’ Day, a globally recognised celebration of labour and the workforce.
Announcing the declaration on Tuesday, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended heartfelt commendations to Nigerian workers for their unwavering diligence, sacrifice, and resilience in nation-building. He praised their contribution to both the internal development and international image of Nigeria.
“There is dignity in labour,” the Minister said, emphasizing that the commitment and dedication displayed by Nigerian workers form the backbone of the country’s growth and prosperity. He urged workers across all sectors to embrace a culture of innovation, productivity, and professionalism.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also stressed the importance of peace as a catalyst for industrialisation and economic development. He noted that creating a stable and secure environment is not only vital to attracting investment but essential for sustainable national progress.
Encouraging Nigerian workers to continue raising the bar in their respective fields, the Minister expressed confidence that improved work standards would enhance governance and ensure that all citizens benefit equitably from the nation’s resources.
He reaffirmed the Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of both citizens and foreigners, assuring the public that security and economic reform remain top priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As Nigerians prepare to mark the occasion, the Minister urged the populace to remain hopeful and united in pursuit of a stronger, more prosperous future.
