While highlighting the significance of the 2024 Global Handwashing Day theme, “Why Are Clean Hands Still Important”, Prof. Utsev stated that it is to serve as a vital reminder of the ongoing need to prioritize and enhance hand hygiene practices, even in the absence of health emergencies or outbreaks.

He reiterated that the theme reinforces the importance of cultivating a culture of cleanliness and health, encouraging individuals and communities to recognize proper handwashing as a simple yet powerful tool in preventing illness and promoting overall well-being. He called for integrating hand hygiene into daily routines and recognizing it as a fundamental aspect of health and disease prevention.

The Honourable Minister disclosed that the Ministry, alongside the National Task Group on Sanitation (NTGS), which serves as the coordinating body for Sanitation and Hygiene Initiatives at the National level, has developed an extensive media sensitization campaign ahead of the Global Handwashing Day celebration on October 15, 2024.
