The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted 488 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition concealed within two 25-liter jerrycans filled with palm oil at the Nyanya bus terminal in Abuja. 
Acting on credible intelligence and collaborating with officials from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), officers apprehended 32-year-old Nuhu Aminu, a resident of Katsina State, on March 24, 2025. 
During interrogation, Aminu confessed to being paid ₦100,000 by one Yakubu Kachalla from Funtua, Katsina State, to transport the ammunition from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State to Katsina. 
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized that this arrest underscores the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and preventing the proliferation of illegal arms that fuel violent crimes. She urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.  
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to apprehend accomplices and uncover the full extent of the arms-smuggling operation. 
This interception highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb the illegal distribution of firearms and maintain public safety within the FCT and beyond.
