EFCC Arrests Businesswoman Aisha Achimugu at Abuja Airport Over Alleged Financial Crimes

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Nigerian businesswoman and socialite Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Achimugu, who was declared wanted by the EFCC in March over allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering, was taken into custody around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, shortly after arriving from London.

Her arrest follows a directive from the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered her to appear before the EFCC on April 29 and also to appear in court on April 30, 2025.

Achimugu’s lawyer, Chief Chikaosolu Ojukwu, confirmed the arrest, stating that she arrived voluntarily into the country to honor the court’s directive. He criticized the arrest as a breach of the court’s directive and disclosed that Achimugu had begun a hunger strike in protest, describing her as a “prisoner of conscience.”

The EFCC had previously declared Achimugu wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial crimes. Details of the allegations include criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
