President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered security agencies to launch a manhunt for those responsible for the killing of travelers in Edo State. The victims, hunters traveling through the Uromi community in the Esan North Local Government Area, were intercepted by local vigilantes before being brutally killed.
In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu condemned the act of jungle justice, stressing that such actions have no place in Nigeria. He reaffirmed that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to move freely within the country without fear of harm.
The President expressed his shock and outrage over the incident, directing the Police and other security agencies to carry out a swift and thorough investigation, with the promise of punishing those responsible. He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims, assuring them that the government would not allow the bloodshed of innocent Nigerians to go unpunished.
Additionally, President Tinubu commended the quick response of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the community leaders in Uromi for their efforts in preventing the situation from escalating further. The President’s firm stance on justice aims to ensure that such heinous acts do not destabilize the country’s peace and security.
