On February 5, 2025, retired Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga, former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), was abducted from his residence in Tsiga Town, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. The kidnapping occurred during a coordinated attack where bandits also seized nine other residents and tragically killed one individual. 
The assailants, identified as members of a notorious bandit group, demanded a ransom of ₦250 million for General Tsiga’s release. Despite negotiations and reported payments, General Tsiga remains in captivity, with today marking the 41st day since his abduction.
Family members, friends, and associates have expressed deep concern over the prolonged captivity and the perceived lack of decisive action from both state and federal authorities. Brigadier General Ismaila Abdullahi (retd.), speaking on behalf of the family, dismissed earlier reports claiming Tsiga had been released as fake news. He also questioned the silence of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), despite Tsiga being an active member, and called for more action to secure his release. 
This incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced security strategies in Katsina State and other affected regions to address the growing threat of banditry and ensure the safety of all citizens.
