Crude Oil Production: Mele Kyari Walking The Talk

By Abba Audu Benisheikh

Mallam Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., has proven himself to be a man of his word. Just three weeks ago, he declared a state of emergency on crude oil production at the NOE Energy Week 2024, vowing to tackle the challenges affecting Nigeria’s oil production head-on. Today, his words have become a reality as the country’s crude oil production has surged to 1.61 million barrels per day (mbpd).

At the NOE Week, Kyari had boldly stated, “We have decided to stop the debate. We have declared war on the challenges affecting our crude oil production. War means war. We have the right tools. We know what to fight. We know what we have to do at the level of assets. We have engaged our partners. And we will work together to improve the situation.” His declaration was not just a mere statement; it was a call to action, a rallying cry to tackle the production challenges plaguing Nigeria’s oil industry.

Fast-forward to today, and the results are evident. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has confirmed that the country’s average daily production has indeed increased to 1.61 mbpd as of July 23. This significant achievement is a testament to Kyari’s leadership, vision, and collaborative approach.

By declaring a state of emergency, Kyari has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the production challenges and his determination to drive growth in Nigeria’s oil sector. His efforts have not only stabilized production but have also positioned the country for sustained growth.

As the country continues to strive towards its ambitious production target of 2.0 mbpd, Mr. Kyari leadership and initiatives will undoubtedly play a crucial role. His ability to engage partners, leverage the right tools, and drive results has set a new standard for Nigeria’s oil industry.

Kudos to Mele Kyari and his team at NNPC Ltd. for walking the talk and achieving this remarkable feat. Congratulations on this significant milestone, and Nigerians look forward to seeing Nigeria’s crude oil production continue to soar under Kyari’s leadership.
