AKK gas pipeline is a conformation of deepening utilization under the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) with the Abuja- Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project that will be fed by Excravos-Lagos Pipeline System
The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari has adviced that, policy on access to finance and low-carbon technology are key to overcoming energy poverty.
Mallam Kyari made this position in a lecture title “Energy Transition and Energy Accessibilty – The New Paradigm” at the preconvocation lecture of the Federal University of technology Minna today.
He said the sunshine in Africa can comfortably, power the continent to an energy sufficient status if the global finance and technology is maximized to attain this target.
In the same vain, he also pictured the achievements of the developed world in renewable energy, particularly the electric vehicle industry as a challenge pushing the drive in combating global warming.
Kyari said, the NNPC’s strategy for carbon neutrality is centered around three principles – “adoption of low-carbon technology across our operations to support blue and green hydrogen production, deepening natural gas utilization to reduce poverty and investment in clean energy technology and products”. And that, the AKK gas pipeline is a conformation of deepening utilization under the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) with the Abuja- Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project that will be fed by Excravos-Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) and Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipelines through Oben node in Edo state and deliver 2bscf of natural gas to power plants and industrial off-takers along Abuja, Kaduna and Kano”.
