FG Unveils BisonFly Project to Curb Air Travel Costs, Enhance Transparency Across MDAs

The Nigerian Federal Government’s launch of the BisonFly Project marks a significant stride toward enhancing fiscal responsibility and transparency within public sector operations. This centralized, technology-driven system aims to streamline air travel bookings across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), thereby reducing costs and curbing inefficiencies.

Developed by the Ministry of Finance’s Efficiency Unit in collaboration with ICT experts, BisonFly is designed to leverage the government’s collective bargaining power to secure discounted airfares, mirroring cost-saving models employed by global institutions like the World Bank. By automating ticket bookings and centralizing travel arrangements, the system seeks to eliminate opaque practices and ensure more efficient use of public funds .

The initiative is not merely a cost-cutting measure but also a step toward digital transformation in government operations. By integrating digital booking tools and centralized platforms, BisonFly is poised to enhance transparency and accountability in official travel arrangements. The project is expected to go live in the coming months, with a dedicated implementation team overseeing its rollout and ensuring measurable results .

This move underscores the government’s commitment to prudent financial management and sets a precedent for leveraging technology to improve public sector efficiency.
