Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Mohamed Salah officially signed a new two-year contract, committing his future to the club until 2027. The 32-year-old Egyptian star put months of uncertainty to rest on Friday, ending speculation of a potential move away, including strong interest from Saudi clubs.
Since arriving from Roma in 2017, Salah has become a modern legend at Anfield, netting 243 goals in 394 appearances, making him Liverpool’s third-highest scorer of all time. His goals have been key to Liverpool’s push for a 20th league title this season, where the Reds currently sit 11 points clear at the top with seven games to go under new manager Arne Slot.
“Of course I’m very excited,” Salah said in a club statement. “I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies.”
Salah’s has contribution 27 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League this season, even as both he and the club hit a recent rough patch. Slot’s side has stumbled with three losses in four games across competitions, including a Champions League exit and a League Cup final defeat.
Still, the timing of Salah’s extension is crucial. With teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also nearing the end of their contracts, his decision could influence others to stay. Van Dijk has hinted at progress in talks, while Alexander-Arnold is reportedly nearing a high-profile switch to Real Madrid.
“He has shown for so many years in a row how valuable he is. We’re very happy he’s extended, hopefully he shows it again on Sunday against West Ham.” Slot praised Salah’s impact and commitment.
Already a Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup winner, Salah now has two more seasons to chase history — both in silverware and the record books. With 184 Premier League goals, he sits fifth all-time and will aim to close the gap on Liverpool’s all-time top scorer Ian Rush (346).
For Liverpool, it’s more than a contract extension; it’s a statement of intent.
